As a busy mom to three, I just can’t find cooking enjoyable anymore! I work from home, so I am always cleaning and cooking after everyone and before I am even done cleaning from the previous meal, I have to start cooking the next. The cycle never ends! It doesn’t make it better that my desk is literally right next to the kitchen, so seriously, the kitchen isn’t my cup of tea!
I have seen subscription boxes for easy home made meals, from having to do it by scratch, to microwaveable and honestly, I was never impressed with the quality. We spend a lot of money on take out and that is so embarrassing to say, but there are days where I want nothing to do with a stove!
We decided to test out this company called BULKBOX FOODS last week and see if they’re who we have been waiting all of our lives… and believe me, they DELIVERED! The process was super easy!
We opted for the Tri-tip and a medley of carrots, bell peppers, broccoli and zucchini. We ordered our box on a Monday and by Wednesday it was being gently delivered in a sealed cool box plenty with coolers, so our meat and veggies were as fresh as at the grocery store. What I was not expecting was how humongous the plank of tri tip was. It wasn’t at all too fatty, just the right amount, and id say with confidence it was at least 8 lbs or at least it felt that way, haha. We also got a basket full of organic veggies. The meat, I forgot to mention is from Australia. We got to cooking right away and me totally always playing it safe, was just freaking out because I have never made tri-tip on my own! Well, I went step by step on a simple recipe and I can say that OH MY GOODNESS… I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but it was the best I have had in years. The best part was that the kids loved it and ate like adults! no whining, and no fussing. We also only made maybe 30% of the whole box, so we have a couple more days left!
I must say that the tenderness of that meat was beyond compare. I could never find a plank like that anywhere! We were obsessed! and the best thing was that it wasn’t at all labor intensive. The meal took me maybe :45 to make. I seasoned the meat with garlic, salt, pepper and seared it on an oven safe pan for 2-4 minutes. Then turned it around and to the oven it went at 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Around 35 minutes it seemed that it needed just a few more minutes, so I took it out of the oven and let it self cook while cooling. the veggies were steamed and seasoned with pepper and I had some mashed potatoes ready to go. OH EM GEE… We wanted seconds and thirds and had I made the whole plank, we would be like thirty pounds heavier by now haha. I cannot wait to do another batch because everything was on point!
